The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an official notification for the University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test for the June cycle today. What is UGC NET 2024?
UGC NET stands for University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test, a qualifying test to evaluate a candidate’s eligibility for Assistant Professorships or Junior Research Fellowships for universities & colleges in India. Every year NTA conducts this examination in June & December, for this year June cycle notification is released. UGC NET examination will be conducted for a total of 83 subjects, syllabus for each subject will be different from others and will be held in online mode.
UGC NET Notification 2024- Important Dates
As UGC NET Notification 2024 has been released, candidates who wish to appear for this examination must be aware of the dates for some important events for this examination. The UGC NET June cycle examination will be conducted from 16th June 2024, candidates will be able to download their admit card and city intimation slip a few days before exam date.

UGC NET Notification 2024- Eligibility Criteria
Those who wish to appear for June cycle of the UGC NET 2024 examination must be aware that there are some eligibility norms which are specified by the National Testing Agency and every candidate who falls within the prescribed eligibility criteria is eligible to apply for this exam. NTA evaluates a candidate’s eligibility based on age limit and educational qualification.
UGC NET Age Limit
To apply for UGC NET examination, candidates are required to fulfill a certain age limit as specified in UGC NET Notification 2024. Age limit criteria for JR & Assistant Professorship are provided below.
- For those applying for NTA NET Junior Research Fellowships, the upper age limit is 30 years.
- For Assistant Professorships, there is no age limit specified by NTA.
- Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwD get 5 years of age relaxations in the upper age limit.
UGC NET Educational Qualification
Candidates who belong to reserved categories will get a 5% relaxation in necessary educational requirements for the UGC NET June 2024 examination. Candidates who have done their masters from UGC-recognized universities or are in final semester are eligible for this national-level examination. Some other educational qualifications that are required as prescribed by NTA are specified below.
- Candidates must be graduates of UGC-recognized universities or institutions with a master’s degree or its equivalent.
- Candidates who are in their last semester of a post-graduate degree are also eligible to apply.
- Passing the qualifying exam in Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science, and Humanities (including languages) is necessary.
- Holders of a Ph.D. receive a 5% relaxation in total marks. These candidates need to have passed their Master’s degree exam, which is completed on 19th September 1991.
UGC NET Notification 2024- Application Fees
While filling UGC NET Application Form 2024 for the June cycle exam, candidates will have to pay prescribed category-wise application fees. Those who belong to general or unreserved category have to pay Rs. 1150/- for UGC NET 2024 examination and for SC/ST/PwD or third general application fee is Rs. 325/-
- General-EWS/OBC-NCL:- Rs. 600/-
- General/Unreserved:- Rs. 1150/-
- ST/SC/PwD & Third Gender:- Rs. 325/-
